Co-existence in the Arctic
Nenets, Saami and Veps from the Barents Euro-Arctic Region meet experts and others in the international conference "Co-existence in the Arctic". Expansion of industrial activities have a significant impact on indigenous peoples, and this is the topic for the discussion in Kirkenes on February 5th 2010.Arctic resources are desperately wanted by the industrialized world – is it possible to develop the Arctic region AND preserve it for future generations? All eyes are on the Arctic, and everybody wants a piece of the rich land – but isn’t it in fact a joint venture?
50 indigenous politicians and activists from the Barents Region meet international experts on indigenous peoples’ rights and international legislation in order to share experiences and discuss the joint development of the Arctic.
