World Reindeer Leader in Nenets AO

Last week, the chair of the Association of World Reindeer Herders, Mikhail Pogodaev, met the Governor of Nenets Autonomous Okrug in order to dicuss cooperation within the Ealát Information project. Project manager, Svein Disch Mathisen, and one of the researchers, Anna Degteva, participated also in the meeting. Mikhail Pogodaev, Chair of the Association of World Reindeer Herders (WRH), met the Governor of Nenets AO, Igor Fyodorov, last Tuesday. Cooperation between WRH and the regional administration of Nenets AO within the field of reindeer husbandry, and in particular the project Ealát Information, was the topic.
The regional newspaper, Naryana Vynder, reports that the meeting was successful, as Governor Fyodorov stated that reindeer husbandry, and all matters related to the business, is important for the okrug. Mikhail Pogodaev noted that Nenets Autonomous Okrug is among the most important reindeer herding regions within the Russian Federation, next to Yakutia and Chukotka.
Ealát Information is a project within the program of the International Polar Year, and it deals with the theme "Reindeer herding and climate change".
President of the Association of Nenets People (Yasavey), Aleksandr Belugin, was present at the mentioned meeting, as well as Angelina Ardeeva (Council of Indigenous Elders) and Aleksandr Ardeev, the Deputy Chief of the NAO Regional Office of Indigenous Peoples and Traditional Activities.
